Cowboys Trade For Running Back Tavon Austin

  • BREAKING Cowboys acquire WR Tavon Austin for 2018 sixth rounder

The Dallas Cowboys continued to rebuild their wide receiver corps during the NFL Draft with a trade bringing them the speedy Tavon Austin. In this post-Dez Bryant world, Allen Hurns, Cole Beasley, Terrance Williams, Deonte Thompson and third-round rookie Michael Gallup are the top names at the position.

After an electric career at West Virginia, Austin became the eighth overall pick in the 2013 draft but thus far hasn't evolved into an impact pro.

Austin ran the ball 59 times last season for the Rams with a 4.6 yards per carry average.

Austin is coming off a season in Los Angeles in which he recorded just 13 catches for 47 total yards and zero touchdowns. And that's the way the Cowboys are rumored to be interested in using the former Ram, as a running back.

Austin, 27, is a short-statured shifty wideout who best operates out of the slot within a spread-type offense-obviously, this caters more to the collegiate world. "Kind of like they had with Lance Dunbar".

If the Cowboys demonstrate a commitment to deploying him in new and unique ways, there's a good chance Austin could finally reach his potential and live up to the hefty deal he signed with the Rams.
