Donald Trump: Jon Tester Should Resign

  • Army veterans Andrew Person and Cliff Larsen give a press conference outside Senator Jon Tester's Missoula office Thursday

President Donald Trump is distorting a number of the explanation why his decide to guide the Division of Veterans Affairs, White Home doctor Ronny Jackson, abruptly withdrew his nomination.

"I am regretfully withdrawing my nomination to be Secretary for the Department of Veterans Affairs", Mr Jackson said in a statement.

Trump recognized Jackson's lack of experience during a press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday.

Senate Democrats released a litany of allegations yesterday, citing "conversations with 23 colleagues and former colleagues".

The White House's reaction appears to be spurred by a statement sent out by the Secret Service on Friday denying that one particular allegation about Jackson-that he got drunk and pounded on the door of a female coworker, causing the Secret Service to intervene-was true.

Trump called the claims "phony Democrat charges" and said Jackson's reputation had been "shattered" because of them. On Saturday Trump duly growled, writing: "The great people of Montana will not stand for this kind of slander when talking of a great human being". He then returned to the White House Medical Unit.

Tester also relied heavily on a 2012 Inspector General command climate investigation into the medical unit at the White House. "I have not wrecked a vehicle. That I can tell you".

"I know things about Tester that I can say, too, " Trump said later at a rally in MI.

His withdrawal came after Montana Sen. Some conservatives such as Pete Hegseth, a "Fox & Friends" contributor, who has been previously considered for the VA secretary job, have suggested the plan may not go far enough to provide access to private doctors outside the government-run VA health system.

Trump has since accused Tester of unfairly and falsely smearing a good man, as the Montana senator is running for re-election in the fall. Shulkin's critics say Shulkin's ethical problems did him in.

Trump weighed in on a few other topics on Saturday, including updates on his conversations with the leaders of South Korea and Japan ahead of a planned meeting between Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Looking for news you can trust? Tester said not investigating would have been "a dereliction of duty" and said making them public was important for the sake of transparency. Tester did the right thing by disclosing the disturbing allegations. "It is really about him doing his job and doing his work".

'What Jon Tester said about this man is a disgrace.

"Senator Isakson has a great relationship with Senator Tester", spokesperson Amanda Maddox said.

On Friday, The Related Press reviewed inside information from the White Home, together with police studies, that present Jackson had three minor incidents in authorities autos through the previous 5 years, however none concerned the usage of alcohol, and he was not discovered to be at fault. The most eye-catching of those allegations was that Jackson had drunkenly totaled a auto after leaving a Secret Service party.

Trump had already threatened Tester, the top Democrat on the Senate Veterans' Committee on Thursday, saying the senator will "have a big price to pay". Jon Tester, D-Mont., who spoke publicly about the allegations against Jackson.

Senator Tester's motivation for leading the crusade against Admiral Jackson is not hard to divine: he is up for reelection in a state that Trump carried by twenty points, Jackson is already a weak nominee (more on that in a minute), and a public fight for better leadership at the VA plays well in a red state. But there are reasons why, in addition to higher Cabinet turnover than his predecessors, President Trump is lagging behind past presidents in the number of people nominated and confirmed for Senate-confirmable positions.
