Golden State Killer: 'You Helped Catch Him,' Comedian Tells Late Wife

She died unexpectedly in her sleep in April 2016 when she was three-quarters of the way through writing her book on the Golden State Killer, I'll Be Gone in the Dark. DeAngelo, a former police officer, is being held on suspicion of four counts of murder, according to Yahoo. Michelle McNamara would have probably agreed.

Two years ago, nearly to the day, crime writer Michelle McNamara was found dead in her Los Angeles home. The Golden State Killer was linked by DNA and method to 12 murders, 45 sexual assaults and more than 120 burglaries from Sacramento to Orange County between 1976 and 1986.

McNamara's book, I'll Be Gone in the Dark, was released in February, two years after her death, after Oswalt helped finish it with the help of lead case researcher Paul Haynes and investigative journalist Billy Jensen. In the book, in a haunting passage titled "Letter to an Old Man", McNamara addresses the killer directly under the assumption that he would someday be found.

The suspect, Joseph James DeAngelo, who was sacked from the Auburn Police Department, was arrested after a DNA sample came back as a match to the Golden State Killer, Sacramento County District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert said. But on Wednesday, I'll Be Gone In the Dark shot up to the top of Amazon's best-seller list and overnight, the online retailer was sold out of all of its copies.

Though he was too "neck deep in grief" and dealing with the realities of suddenly becoming a single father to be actively involved, Oswalt says he leaned on her publisher and other collaborators to get the book done.

But Patton Oswalt is not having it. Oswalt took to social media to credit Michelle McNamara for helping to find justice in the case two years after her death.

Patton Oswalt called yesterday "one of the most exhausting, exhilarating days" of his life. Instead, they credited her for have helping keep public interest and "tips coming in". Not surprisingly, the actor said he was now "on adrenaline and sleeplessness" due to the bombshell development in the case after more than 40 years.

Within hours, police in the United States announced the arrest of a 72-year-old former police officer in connection with the killings, and Oswalt praised his late wife for her persistence. "The bracelets are on", said Oswalt, "and it feels like this thing that she wanted so badly is now done". "You aimed a light and helped the hunters catch a monster".

Emmy Award victor Oswalt earlier shared his thoughts in a video on Instagram about the arrest, which McNamara had been digging into from 2013 until her death.

Oswalt also pointed out the irony that the arrest happened on DNA Day - the U.S. holiday celebrating advancements in DNA research - since McNamara firmly believed DNA evidence would play a key role in uncovering the killer's identity. "This is the beginning of the whole other chapter of this, of this saga-this insane crime saga".
