Ohtani homers in third straight game, matches Babe Ruth

  • MLB Oakland Athletics at Los Angeles Angels

And yet, last night could be the best of them all.

The Angels (6-2) will try to maintain their April pace against a pitcher they struggled against early last season. They've gained 4.3 units for bettors taking the moneyline and 3.1 units ATS. In mores straightforward terms, Ohtani is a two-way player, serving the Angels as both a hitter and pitcher.

It was a rough game overall for the Athletics and Chapman just happened to run into the red-hot Ohtani at the wrong time.

This should be an interesting game between two American League West rivals.

For most of the game, Ohtani's fastball was unhittable. With three homers and seven RBI in his first eight Major League Baseball games, the Japanese sensation is dominating from a plate early on his career. But today, against a team the Angels are already 4-2 against this season, go ahead and back the Angels.

The Japanese Babe ruth wowed yet again Sunday, as he struck out 12 and carried a ideal game into the seventh inning in an electrifying start against the Athletics.

Jed Lowrie drew a four-pitch walk after Semien's single, but Ohtani ended the threat by inducing Khris Davis' weak groundout before fanning Olson.

Trout hit a long homer over the ficus trees in center field in the third inning, snapping an 0-for-15 skid on Los Angeles' homestand. Its starting pitching staff has an ERA of 5.83, a WHIP of 1.39 and a strikeouts-per-nine of 8.0.

The Athletics just couldn't pull through against a superb pitching effort, losing the series 2-1 in Anaheim. Graveman started their confrontation with a sinker that didn't sink.

The Los Angeles hitters have put up 6.0 runs per outing, including 6.4 per game over their last five.

Gossett was pulled after five runs in 3 1/3 innings.

The Angels' offense has been led by Justin Upton and Shohei Ohtani.

The homer lifted Ohtani to 6 for 11 (.545) with six RBIs at home. Ohtani came in with a lot of hype, but gave up 19 runs in 5 exhibition games. During that same year, he earned an ERA of just 1.86, culminating in him being named the league's MVP.

Saturday: Went 0 for 4, striking out three times and grounding into a double play, in a 7-3 loss to Oakland.

DIAMONDBACKS 4, CARDINALS 1 David Peralta hit a tiebreaking, two-run home run off Dominic Leone in the eighth inning for visiting Arizona in a game that saw Diamondbacks Manager Torey Lovullo get tossed.

Chapman seemed to take a step back when hitting righty pitching on the road past year, maintaining a slash line of.149/.243/.347 across 115 such plate appearances (his overall season line was.234/.313/.472). It was the largest regular season day game attendance at Angel Stadium since undergoing a renovation in 1998.
