Saudi Arabian military intercepted at least one missile above the capital Riyadh on Wednesday, Saudi-owned broadcaster Al Arabiya said. Other residents of the capital posted on social media similar accounts of hearing loud explosions and seeing smoke in the sky from the possible missile interception. Saudi officials have not yet commented on the report.

The kingdom accuses Iran of supplying missile parts and expertise to the Houthis. He has previously warned that Saudi Arabia reserves the right to respond against Iran.

Houthi rebels reportedly fired a number of missiles towards a Saudi government building.

They have frequently claimed attacks, including on Aramco facilities, that Saudi Arabia and its main ally the United Arab Emirates have either said did not happen or were intercepted.

The Reuters news agency quoted the Houthi's Al Masirah TV channel as saying that it had launched a drone strike on a facility in Saudi Arabia belonging to the oil company Saudi Aramco.

According to Conflict Armament Research (CAR), the Qasif-1 drone is said to resemble Iran's Ababil-2 drone and is the latest in a line of weapons Tehran has allegedly sent the Houthis.

Saudi Arabia's air defense forces have intercepted a missile over the city of Najran, according to the Saudi-led coalition statement.

Al-Arabiya quoted al-Malki as describing the drone over Abha airport as a "hostile Houthi aircraft with Iranian characteristics". Earlier this month, the coalition said the rebels attacked a Saudi oil tanker in the Red Sea, causing "minor damage" to the ship. While missile strikes against Riyadh are growing in frequency, the Houthis have more often targeted southern Saudi border cities and towns.
