Sensex Ends 95 Points Higher; TCS Gains Ahead Of Q4 Earnings

The Nifty fell 84.5 points in the intra-day trade from its days high of 10,594.20 amidst heavy selling in bank and auto sector stocks. However, investors preferred to lock in gains towards the close of the session, with the benchmark finally ending at 34,331.68, down 63.38 points, or 0.18 per cent. JSW Steel, Tata Steel, Sail also gained between 3-4 per cent.

On Tuesday, both the equity indices had logged their ninth consecutive session of gains, which was their longest winning streak since September 2014.

The 30-share barometer rose 147.14 points (0.42 percent) to 34 478.82 with metal, realty, Teck, FMCG, IT and capital goods stocks rising up to 1.81 percent.

MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan added 0.15 per cent, while E-Mini futures for the S&P 500 edged up 0.1 per cent.

Meanwhile, shares of state-run oil refiners tumbled and were the top percentage losers on the NSE index as oil prices remain close to late 2014-highs on the back of declining USA crude inventories, while top exporter Saudi Arabia pushed for higher prices.

IndusInd Bank gained 0.69 percent to 1857.45 and TCS rose 0.43 percent to Rs 3173 ahead of earnings.

The Indian rupee weakened for a fourth consecutive session to hit a fresh seven-month low against the United States dollar after worldwide crude oil prices surged.

In the broader market, the BSE Midcap and BSE Smallcap indices gained 0.3 per cent. Market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, turned positive.

Indian shares ended modestly higher on Thursday as a surge in commodity prices helped lift mining stocks and investors remained optimistic about the ongoing earnings season.

Meanwhile, foreign institutional investors sold scrips worth Rs 915.71 crore, while the domestic institutional investors bought stocks worth Rs 869.70 crore, provisional data with the exchanges showed.
