  • Afghanistan Nine killed dozens injured in Kabul suicide bombing

However, Doha based Al-Jazeera TV network has confirmed the death of 63 people and wounding of hundreds others.

The Kabul bombing occured in the Dasht-e-Barchi area, where numerous country's Shia Hazara minority reside.

Even though ISIS's presence in Afghanistan has largely been reduced by airstrikes and covert military operations, the group continues to claim deadly attacks in urban areas. "It was a suicide attack", Dawood Amin, city police chief, told AFP.

Mr. Yamamoto expressed his deep condolences to the family and victims, and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Abdullah Abdullah, said in his statement, "Our resolve for fair and transparent election will continue and terrorists won't win against the will of Afghan people".

A Daesh (ISIS) suicide bomber killed at least 57 people including women and children and wounded 119 outside a voter registration center in the Afghan capital Kabul Sunday in the latest attack on election preparations.

Tolo news further reports that by Sunday mid-day, there had been five attacks in less than a week against the election process.

The incident took place on Sunday night.

They (the government) should be keeping the country safe.

Interior Ministry spokesman Najib Danesh said a bomber on foot approached the centre where officials had been issuing identity cards as part of the registration process for voters for the election scheduled for October.

Both groups launch attacks regularly, with the Taliban usually targeting the government and security forces, and IS attacking the country's Shiite minority.

They were guarded by just two policemen, said Haji Zaman, a tribal elder. Health officials said the family had been driving past the voter registration centre when the explosives were detonated.

There have already been at least four attacks on such centres since voter registration got under way a week ago.

The latest violence comes as US and the Afghan troops have been conducting counter-terrorism operations and airstrikes across Afghanistan, including in Nangarhar, to root out IS and prevent the group from expanding its footprint in the country.
