Yemen's Shiite rebels say they've fired eight ballistic missiles at targets in Saudi Arabia's southern metropolis of Jizan.

An Arab coalition air strike has killed dozens of Houthi militants including two commanders, Saudi state media said Saturday, in another blow to the militia following the assassination of their political chief.

Al-Samad, who held the post of president in the Houthi-backed political body, was the most senior official to be killed by the Western-backed alliance, which had offered a $20-million U.S. reward for any information that led to Samad's capture.

Lebanese news outlet Al Mayadeen reported that the Saudi-led coalition was responsible for the strike. There were no reports of casualties.

Eyewitnesses in Sanaa reported Saudi-led air raids on Saturday near the downtown rally for the burial of Saleh al-Samad, the president of the political body that runs Houthi-controlled northern Yemen.

Saudi Arabia fears its regional archrival, Iran, is backing the Houthis in a bid to gain a strategic foothold on the Arabian Peninsula, a view shared by Washington.

Saudi air defenses made a similar interception on Friday when Houthis filed a ballistic missile on the city of Najran in a deliberate act to target civilian and populated areas.

Saudi Arabia backs Yemen's internationally acknowledged authorities and goals to defeat the Iran-backed Houthis to revive the federal government to energy.

Saudi state-run television offered the report early Saturday, saying more than 50 were killed. The Shiite rebels generally known as Houthis didn't instantly acknowledge the strike.

Saudi Arabia and its allies launched the war in March 2015 in support of Yemen's former Riyadh-friendly government and against the Houthi Ansarullah movement, which is now running state affairs.

Saudi-owned Al-Arabiya television said a total of 38 rebels were killed in the strike on a Huthi interior ministry building.

The two sides in Yemen have fought to a stalemate after more than three years of war.
