  • Fallen officers remembered at national candlelight vigil

Tens of thousands of people attended an emotional candlelight vigil Sunday evening in Washington DC to honor law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty in 2017.

Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz said, "Law enforcement personnel selflessly serve our community every day, protecting us and keeping us safe".

Allery was fatally shot by 28-year-old Melvin Gene Delong, of Belcourt, after a pursuit on January 18, 2017.

Lt. Jason Price said that highlighting the service of police officers is important, especially in today's climate.

"Law enforcement officers run toward conflict and gunfire to protect innocent lives in an environment where they are highly scrutinized on social media and in cell phone video clips", Kirsch said in a press release. "It is also our hope that our fallen heroes' stories and legacy will serve as an inspiration to others and as an example of selfless public service", said R. Andrew Murray, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina".

The National Peace Officers Memorial Service, which is sponsored by the Grand Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police, is one in a series of events which includes a candlelight vigil, which is sponsored by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund and seminars sponsored by Concerns of Police Survivors. Since the first known line-of-duty death in 1791, more than 21,000 US law enforcement officers have made the ultimate sacrifice. We appreciate the opportunity to work with community members every day and we remain committed to collaborating with the community to make Marshalltown a great place to live, recreate and work.

"Each year we gather together to remember members of our law enforcement family that have been taken from us by acts of violence, by offenders, accidents and catastrophic health incidents during duty", said Auburn Police Chief Paul Register.

That's why we couldn't agree more with the proclamation Sterling Mayor Dan Torres issued at last week's city council meeting for National Police Week. This month, two more names were added to the memorial, Special Deputy George H. Yeaman, Jr. and Special Deputy John Frederick Mines. The Wisconsin Law Enforcement Memorial's mission is to remember and honor Wisconsin law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. "These officers will never be forgotten and our prayers are with their families, friends, and officers from their respective police departments".

"I would invite and encourage all residents to come to our memorial service Wednesday at the Sheriff's Office".
