Diogo Dalot: Manchester United close to deal for Porto right-back

30 May, 2018, 18:02 | Author: Hannah Francis

Manchester United and Chelsea will fight it out to sign Barcelona defender Jordi Alba, according to reports in Sport.

The 19-year-old defender made his debut for the Portuguese club last season and immediately impressed during his seven first-team appearances in all competitions.

Strengthening his defence is a priority and a new right-back to act as a long-term replacement for Antonio Valencia is desperately needed as the Ecuadorian worldwide turns 33 in August.

They say United have met Dalot's £17.5m (€20m) buyout clause. Porto are understood to have turned down bids below Dalot's release clause a year ago.

José Diogo Dalot Teixeira, known as Dalot was in October voted as Porto's Young Player of the Year and is rated as one of the best young talents in world football.

Diogo Dalot is close to joining Manchester United.

Matteo Darmian, who has been a reserve for Mourinho in both full-back slots, is expected to leave, so Dalot is seen as a replacement for the Italian and as a challenger for Valencia's first-team berth.

United will also continue to monitor Gareth Bale's future at Real Madrid, having previously informed his representatives that they would like to be involved in any discussion over his future, should he decide to leave.

However, the Portuguese is now closing on a move to Manchester United and according to Portuguese daily O Jogo, his representatives have communicated his decision to Porto.
