  • Elon Musk says Tesla will be 'thoroughly reorganised'

While a Tesla spokesperson failed to comment following the accident, the company's co-founder Elon Musk took to Twitter to note that it was "super messed up" that the latest accident had garnered so much public attention, while accidents involving traditional cars "get nearly no coverage".

The driver of a Tesla electric auto which crashed into the back of a fire engine on Saturday says she had the vehicle's semi-autonomous Autopilot mode engaged and was looking at her phone when the accident occurred.

Tesla officials and Utah police wouldn't provide additional details Monday about the Friday evening crash that left the Tesla Model S driver with a broken ankle. "An impact that speed usually results in severe injury or death".

Just last week, the NTSB opened an investigation into a case where a fatal Fort Lauderdale crash raised eyebrows, as it was the agency's fourth active probe into the automaker's electric vehicles.

Negative news and Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) seem to be going hand-in-hand in recent times, but the company still has plenty of loyalists and fans that are expecting big things from the carmaker in the future.

The motorist suffered a broken ankle and was taken to a hospital while a firefighter escaped unharmed.

Since the driver was not fully focused on the road, it is unlikely that the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and National Transport Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate the accident, the newspaper says. In March, a Tesla Model X SUV crashed on a California highway, killing the driver, and investigators are looking into the performance of the semi-autonomous driving system in that crash.

In his email to staff, Musk said Tesla was "flattening the management structure to improve communication", combining functions and trimming activities "not vital to the success of our mission" in the reorganisation.

According to sources, Mr. Schwall decision to quit his job is not related to N.T.S.B.'s investigations regarding Tesla's Autopilot System.

Witnesses said the Tesla did not brake prior to impact.

"We've been doing a thorough search of our service records, and we can not find anything suggesting that the customer ever complained to Tesla about the performance of Autopilot", Tesla said in a statement.

Tesla has said the autopilot feature in its vehicles only handles some driving tasks. It was unknown at the time of the accident whether the driver was operating on the Autopilot feature.
