"We definitely go to Monaco on a high note, but we know that we still have a lot of work to do". Still, I think he can breakout on Sunday at a track he has some good history at.

Hamilton says he felt in sync with his auto on Sunday as he won by over 20 seconds, and highlights Mercedes' understanding of the way the vehicle behaves as key to his confidence.

Mercedes' vehicle is fast and both Hamilton and Bottas are blistering quick, but in the race Ferrari might just prove to be quicker.

"I think, as a team, this weekend we have been flawless, and we just need to continue like that and for me also the wins are going to come", Bottas said.

"Third, I think it was a poor weekend in terms of reliability". In the process he also extended his championship lead over Sebastian Vettel to 17 points. This opposed to Hamilton and Bottas running on the Super Soft tyre. There is... race by race we're understanding the tires more, which is a bit battle for everyone.

So too did his team, winners of both crowns for the past four years but whose dominance is now under a more sustained attack than ever from closest rivals Ferrari and a resurgent Red Bull. "I didn't have much to lose so I thought I'd try". After Raikkonen's auto suffered from power unit issues in the Free Practice 2 session, the Iceman retired from the race from what seemed to be a similar issue.

Vettel was triumphant at the Monaco Grand Prix a year ago and will be desperate to prevail again as he looks to close the gap to Hamilton in the championship standings. The team hoped Vettel was going to be faster than his opponents afterward, but it didn't work that way and he never challenged Verstappen for the final podium spot. "So our ambition has to be that we're better off rather than worse off", reasoned Vettel.

The Formula One world remains divided over whether Ricciardo or Verstappen was most responsible for their mid-race crash as the Australian attempted to pass at the Azerbaijan GP.

"Generally, he likes spinning, but on the first lap is not a good time to do it with everyone there".

At the front of the race, Vettel's move on Bottas from the start line was the key move, but the main first-lap action took place behind the front-runners. Max Verstappen (Red Bull) +26.873, 4. It was only revealed post-race that one of the reasons for this huge gap was a spin after the Virtual Safety Car restart on cold tyres.

Magnussen survived the lap one drama to take sixth, a whopping 50 seconds behind Ricciardo, but a comfortable 35 seconds in front of Renault's Carlos Sainz Jr.

Another bad day at the office for the Frenchman as he lost control of his auto on the first lap and spun into a chasing field, that eliminated Nico Hulkenberg and Pierre Gasly along the way.

Vettel's second slow stop was not helped by Sergio Perez entering the pits at the same time for Force India, but he claimed: "It was my mistake".
