On Friday, police in NY made the first arrest of the #MeToo movement: Harvey Weinstein was arrested and charged with rape, a criminal sex act, sex abuse and sexual misconduct, based on the allegations of two women.

We know these charges are based on the testimony of two accusers, one who is now anonymous and accused him of rape, and the other, Lucia Evans, who says Weinstein forced her to perform oral sex on him.

Weinstein is facing charges of sexual abuse and a criminal sex act over the alleged incident with Evans, as well as with the rape of a second unidentified woman that allegedly took place in March 2013.

A judge agreed to release Weinstein on $1 million bail on Friday after he agreed to wear an electronic monitor that tracks his movements 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The criminal sex act charge relates to a 2004 meeting between Weinstein and Lucia Evans, who was a new, young actor at the time. "The NYPD thanks these fearless survivors for their courage to come forward and seek justice".

More than 70 women have accused Mr Weinstein of sexual misconduct although the charges relate to only two of them.

During the interview, Sciutto also played a clip of Weinstein's lawyer, Benjamin Branfman telling the press, "Mr. Weinstein did not invent the casting couch in Hollywood". Here's what attorney Gloria Allred, who represents several of Weinstein's victims, had to say in a statement.

However, they will know Mr Weinstein isn't going down without a fight.

According to reports, Weinstein's arrest will be followed by a grand jury investigation, alongside other ongoing investigations against him in Los Angeles and London.

Harvey Weinstein arrives at the first precinct while turning himself to authorities following allegations of sexual misconduct.

Gershman said he thought Brafman's best strategy would be to stall for time and try to get the best possible plea deal, which would certainly include prison time. The New York Times reported that the investigation will examine whether Weinstein violated federal stalking laws.

"I feel shocked", McGowan, 44, said on Good Morning America.

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. had been under pressure over his 2015 decision not to pursue a complaint by model Ambra Battilana Gutierrez, who said Weinstein had groped her without her consent. Among the accusations are allegations of rape.

Palmer said on Twitter that all digital proceeds from the song until June 30 will go to the Time's Up legal defense fund for survivors of sexual assault and harassment.

Weinstein has maintained his innocence and claimed that all of his sexual encounters have been consensual, and previously claimed that McGowan demanded a hefty settlement to keep her allegations quiet.

Since October 2017, more than 90 women have accused Weinstein of sexual misconduct. Over the years, journalists and investigators, chasing leads from a whisper network of women and a handful of complainants, tried to expose the accusations and hold him accountable, but came up empty. Since the allegations broke a year ago, more than 80 women have come forward to share their stories of abuse at the hands of one of the most powerful men in Hollywood.
