IN school shooting in Noblesville leaves teacher, student injured; suspect in custody

The unnamed educator tackled the shooter to the ground and swatted the gun away from him, a student who said she was in the classroom told WXIN-TV. "This happens in high school, not here". One student had an ankle fracture. A student was also shot and the suspected shooter was apprehended.

Jason Seaman, a former defensive lineman at Southern Illinois, has been identified by parents and students as the teacher who intervened to help stop a shooter at a middle school in IN on Friday.

Jowitt said a male student asked to be excused from his class at the middle school, left the classroom, then returned armed with two handguns.

After the IN attack, students were bused to the Noblesville High School gym, where hundreds of parents and other family members arrived to retrieve them.

Jennifer Morris, who was among the anxious parents who rushed to get their kids, appeared slightly dazed and said she was at work when her 14-year-old son sent a text message about the shooting, stunning her. "We know there are also many other victims as well, students that observed this, teachers that observed this, law enforcement officers that observed this, and we're gonna try to get through it".

The student said this is the type of person the teacher and football coach is.

Superintendent of Noblesville Schools, Dr. Beth Niedermeyer, said faculty and students correctly followed procedures as they evacuated the middle school.

Jason Seaman, a former defensive end for Southern Illinois University, was shot three times while intervening to help stop an active shooter at Noblesville West Middle School in IN on Friday, the IndyStar reports.




Parents can pick up West Middle School students at Noblesville High School, which was dismissed at 1 p.m. Parents of children at other schools can pick up their children at any time, but regular dismissals and buses were scheduled for those facilities. "My daughter called her while it was happening from underneath the desk and it sounded like it was coming from another hallway".

Noblesville, which is about 20 miles northeast of Indianapolis, is home to about 50,000 people.

An official says an adult and a child were injured in a shooting at an in middle school and were taken to hospitals in Indianapolis. She didn't know the seriousness of their injuries. We are aware of a secondary threat that has been made against Noblesville High School.

The middle school was on lockdown, but the all clear was given and the lockdown was lifted.

They did not provide further details on the incident or release the names of anyone who was involved.

In 2017, the United States had 44 elementary/secondary school shootings where someone was shot or killed.
