  • The hulking cat closes in on its prey at a predator park believed to be in South Africa

The animal park's website states Mike and Chrissy Hodge moved to South Africa from the United Kingdom in 1999 and opened their lion project in 2003.

According to United Kingdom tabloid The Sun, he relocated from the United Kingdom with his wife Chrissy in 2003, and is now in hospital after sustaining neck and jaw injuries. The hulking animal claws at the man - who goes limp in its grip.

Thabazimbi is home to the Marakele Animal Sanctuary, which allows visitors to ride around its lion enclosure in a specially protected vehicle, according to reviews on Google.

Incidents of big cats attacking humans are increasing at an alarming rate, and the fault is not at all that of these majestic wild animals.

Onlookers scream as he the lion drags him back into the bushes, with a man heard saying "get a rifle just in case". A man was attacked by a lion at another game reserve in the region on Monday, police said.

It has become a routine of a sort to step inside animals' enclosure, a mistake that could have proven fatal for Briton owner of Marakele Predator Park in South Africa.

Marakele Predator Park was established in 2010 by Mr Hodge and his wifer Chrissy after they emigrated from the United Kingdom, according to its website.

A few years later they relocated to the town in the Limpopo province and founded the Marakele Predator Park.

As the wildlife park grew in popularity, the couple created the predator centre featuring at least a dozen big cats, including white lions, cheetahs and two Bengal tigers.

Guests can stay in safari tents and each night they "will be able to hear the lions roar, hyenas laugh, and jackals calling".

The video sparked debate on social media, with some criticizing Hodge for entering the enclosure.

Wrote a commentator, 'Why was he inside the enclosure?

Whatever be the noble thought of the man, he found himself under attack from the predator who had nearly gone for the kill.

'Set him free, where he deserves to be'.

While another posited, 'Hopefully everyone boycotts this place, the lion should not have been put down'.
