  • Media Misled on NRA Annual Meeting Gun Policy

Plans for the NRA speech come just more than two months after the school shooting in Parkland, Florida, reignited a national debate about gun laws in the USA and spawned a student-led push to reform gun laws around the country. After the Parkland shooting, Trump spoke in favor of arming teachers, a controversial stance nationwide but already a common practice at some schools outside Dallas.

There will be plenty of guns at the National Rifle Convention in Dallas this week, but one room will be completely free of weapons. "NRA faces backlash for banning guns at NRA convention", a headline from The Hill said.

But this year, Trump is set to speak to the gun lobby just two months after he drew concerns from conservatives after urging lawmakers to not fear the NRA and suggesting law enforcement officials should take guns away from risky individuals without due process.

Much has changed in the American debate about guns since the last NRA convention in Texas in 2013, the largest in recent memory, which drew more than 81,000 people.

"Also, it's amusing how anti-gun advocates are infuriated that law-abiding NRA members would follow the law".

The NRA has said on its website that due to Pence's attendance, the U.S. Secret Service is responsible for security then. Deitsch wrote. "Can someone explain this to me?"

On so many levels, this is enlightening.

Pence is slated to speak on Friday afternoon but no time has been announced for Trump's address, which we all know will go smoothly and not feature any kind of incendiary rhetoric at all because Trump is the most stable of geniuses.

The convention, which rotates among cities, drew more than 80,000 NRA members and other supporters previous year in Atlanta.

Cameron Kasky, also a survivor of the shooting, called the NRA "a hilarious parody of itself".

John Cornyn are also among the speakers scheduled to attend the event.

He added, "I wish my daughter and others murdered by guns had the same protection". "Am I missing something?" he tweeted.

"Obviously, even Republicans and so-called leaders don't trust the 'good guys.' I realize it's the VP, but still makes our whole argument look foolish, " a commenter who said he was an NRA member. "Don't complain about your eroding credibility and other people calling you "faux information" while you publish issues like this", she wrote. "No excuses for this.it makes us look stupid", the commenter said. "The eight-year assault on your Second Amendment freedoms has come to a crashing end", Trump told the crowd.
