  • Lionel Messi swap Barcelona title for Argentina win

Messi has spent his entire senior career with Barcelona, winning countless major honours and scoring 552 goals, and has vowed that he will never represent a continental rival, with Manchester City having previously attempted to sign the forward .

The Argentina superstar will be 35 by the time the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar gets underway and may not be as effective then as he is now.

Messi, who has now scored 64 global goals, admits that they are not among the favourites, but he says logic goes out the window at the World Cup.

The five-time Ballon D'Or victor further revealed he would happily sacrifice another title with Barcelona if it meant he would win the World Cup with his homeland.

In an interview with ElTrece, Messi said: "The other day I was speaking with a my friend, and he told me, 'Look, if you had stayed with Spain, you would be world champion.' But it would not have been the same".

Barcelona star Lionel Messi has reiterated that he would never consider playing for another team in Europe.

The 30-year-old suggested that he could return to his homeland in Argentina to play for Newell's Old Boys.

"More than the result we were able to say goodbye to our fans and show that we are going to Russian Federation with hope", Messi said.

"At a World Cup, logic hardly ever prevails".

'I do not advocate it and I don't think Federation Internationale de Football Association will support it, but Players must do something about it. Racism may live beyond our time but we need to make a strong statement, ' he said.

"We have players to be able to dream".

'I met Cesc's parents and at the time we were interested in Messi and Pique as well. Iceland showed in the Euros that they can go up against anyone.

"No one should doubt that we're going to give our all, as our supporters demand".

Jorge Sampaoli's men kick off their World Cup campaign by taking on Iceland on June 16.
