National Football League owners note Donald Trump's attempt to influence anthem views

National Football League owners met last week in Atlanta and amended their policy on anthem protocol, requiring that all players stand for the anthem while on the sidelines.
"The only reason, and the owners will admit this, that they haven't signed him, is they're afraid of Trump, and they've colluded because of Trump", Geragos said.
Last week, the NFL enacted a new national anthem policy that stated players were not required to report to the field for the anthem, but if they were on the field and did not stand, their team would be punished. Kaepernick hasn't been signed by an National Football League team since that season. The owner said he became against kneeling when he felt that the message from the players was being interpreted as anti-military.
In a separate deposition, Stephen Ross of the Miami Dolphins admitted the president "changed the dialogue" surrounding the anthem protests.
The NFL player's has filed a grievance in his defense, finding a party guilty of basing its decision not to sign Reid on the fact he challenged the implementation of a club policy, the exact wording they used to mount Kaepernick's case against league owners.
Those deposed were required to turn over phone and email records related to Kaepernick, who has not played since the 2016 season. But the rules set off a torrent of criticism from those who believe that players should be allowed to express themselves or protest during the anthem as they see fit.
Jones said he personally spoke with Trump about the issue... But some have noted that Trump's tax statement represented a step toward potential government infringement upon players' First Amendment rights.
Kaepernick's attorney, Mark Geragos, hailed the owners' testimony in an appearance on CBS News legal correspondent Amy Dash's "Straight Aim" podcast.
The Journal reported that the depositions suggest the league was influenced to issue the new policy by Trump's activism on the matter. "Tell everybody, you can't win this one".
