  • A Southwest plane makes emergency landing after window breaks during flight

Southwest Airlines said the crew made a decision to land in Cleveland "for maintenance review of one of the multiple layers of a window plane".

Southwest is already losing at least $50 million in ticket sales after a broken window caused New Mexico woman Jennifer Riordan, 43, to be partially sucked out of a different plane on April 17.

Hirsch Chinn, a passenger on the flight, told ABC News that other passengers on board quickly changed seats upon discovering the cracked window.

The flight landed "uneventfully", and airport workers in Cleveland are now reaccomodating the 76 passengers.

The Boeing 737 maintained pressurization during the flight and the pilot did not request an emergency landing, the spokesperson said.

The plane was cleared to land in Philadelphia, where emergency crews waited.

The plane, which had departed from La Guardia Airport in NY and was bound for Dallas, made an emergency landing in Philadelphia.

This accident happened two days after the plane passed visual inspections, according to The New York Times. "Everything ok but scary", one of her texts read. Another user added a video of flight attendants trying to calm passengers down once back on tarmac, and telling them to transfer to a different plane - waiting alongside them.

It is not known what caused the window to break, but the Washington Post is reporting that passengers heard something smash into the window, causing it to shatter. The passengers were put on another Southwest flight and arrived in Newark just after 1 p.m., the airline said.

Pictures on social media show heavy cracks in the window of the Southwest Airlines aircraft.

Passengers on the plane described her as having nerves of steel and said after the plane landed safely she made sure to talk to them to make sure they were okay.
