The men have since appeared on Iraqi television in yellow prison uniforms; with officials describing them as "some of the most wanted" leaders of the terrorist group. Trump wrote in a post on Twitter, providing no further details.
The paper reports that the operation began after Turkish authorities arrested a top aide to ISIS chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in February and extradited him to Iraq.
The second leader, Ismail al-Eithawi, who had been captured previously, was said to have been told to use his phone to summon the others.
He thought to be hiding in eastern Syria and surrounded by only a small group of trusted followers, an Iraqi intelligence official said. The capture of all five was announced on Iraqi state TV on Wednesday.

His tweet came after Iraqi officials confirmed the results of the three-month cross-border operation.
