  • Google Makes Android Messages for Web Official, Announces Other...

Again, this all starts rolling out from today.

Apple's iMessage is the glue that keeps many users on iOS, and now it appears Google is readying a legitimate competitor. Google has stated that an average Android user has saved 21% of their mobile data by using data from Monday to Thursday and having Friday covered by Datally. Not only will it allow users to send and receive texts, the service has a built-in GIF searching tool, previews for links, and smart replies. Users are also able to view any messages sent to their Android smartphone.

The app is a front-end for the Podcasts player in Google Assistant and it leverages the reach of the Assistant on your various devices to let you search for and play podcasts on any of those devices. Bingo, you can now text! As of now, my phone app has updated but hasn't brought forward the option to scan code so as to access messages on the web. All you have to do is click on the machine generated reply, and the app will automatically send it as your reply.

The option to scan a barcode and connect your phone to a desktop is now not available for many users, but I am sure it won't be long before you can do that.

Access to Messages for web isn't the only new feature in Android Messages. Technically known as Rich Communication Services (RCS), Google's engineers began working on the service since February this year. Many carriers have also pledged to back Chat and integrate the benefits (read receipts, typing indicators, full-resolution images and video, and improved group texts) offered by RCS. Similar to how the Google Lens and Google Assistant apps operate.

How to Activate Messages for Web Service? You'll see an inline preview of the link, directly in your conversation. For starters, when you tap the "+" icon, you'll now be able to search for GIFs to add to your conversation.

That feature saves time when you are messaging on the go by suggesting quick text or emoji responses to messages.

Another highly-useful feature is the ability to copy one time passwords and verification codes from a notification and paste into the password field.
