The over-ear headphones are expected to compete with models from Bose and Sennheiser.

The new AirPods will be noise canceling and water resistant enough to combat rain and perspiration, sources familiar with the products told Bloomberg on Monday.

Apple is also trying to increase the range that AirPods can work away from an iPhone or iPad and like anything from Apple they are tipped to be expensive.

That product could be released as soon as the end of this year, Bloomberg said. In addition, the company is working on wireless case charger headphone that will be compatible with the charger AirPower.

Rumors have circulated for months that Apple is looking to revamp its line of AirPods. The report suggests all three new products will land in 2019, with two potentially launching in the first half of next year. For all the valid criticisms you could level at the HomePod, poor sound quality is certainly not one of them.

As a result, we are relieved the new lightning EarPods are so much better than their predecessors.

Inventec executives met with Apple executives in California in recent weeks to discuss future HomePod orders, but a final decision on working with Inventec on the new model hasn't been made, the people said.

They're surprisingly good at staying put within your ear, and the battery life is commendable. It's particularly interesting to hear that Apple might be developing a high-end pair of AirPods, as the $159 price tag for its current AirPods has proven to be a sticking point for some consumers.

Reports of new Apple audio gear have circulated for a few months now.

Another improvement to the audio accessory will be an upgrade to its access to Apple's Siri digital assistant. It won't enable users to swim with the next-generation AirPods.

While this does fill in a few gaps in the Apple/Beats lineup of headphones, this is a roll of the dice for Apple. Unlike Beats headphones, they'll be Apple-branded and marketed as a higher end kind of headphones in comparison to the already exorbitantly priced Beats headphones. Apple had originally meant to introduce the headphones by the end of 2018 but has faced development challenges.

The HomePod, another product that was plagued with delays, is also expected to get a refresh.

Then, we come to Apple's new HomePod, which is the most mysterious of the bunch.

Apple is likely to continue to offer new versions of both 'Pods, according to the Bloomberg report. Unfortunately, there are no details about what features it might boast. According to Bloomberg, the company will use its own branding and not Beats.
