  • Designer Kate Spade reportedly found dead from apparent suicide

Masaba Gupta, who is popular for her out-of-the-box designs, has mourned the death of global designer Kate Spade and says it is such a "strange and damaged time we are living in".Spade, who created a line of handbags in the 1990s, was found dead in her apartment in NY on Tuesday. Starting out in the early 1990s she designed her first handbag, playfully named "The Sam". She was also a staple of NYC who spread good will. Spade cleverly identified a gap in the market, and as it turns out, this was rather lucrative. "Kate will be dearly missed", a Kate Spade spokesperson said in a statement on Tuesday. Tapestry, Inc. bought Kate Spade in July 2017 for $2.4 billion.

'Kate was more than a designer. She adored glitter, polka dots, ruffles, stripes.

Spade made it ok, if not desirable, to wear a mouse handbag, or to carry a typewriter tote. It was an idealistic notion, but the woman at the helm, who built what would become a multibillion-dollar brand on boxy handbags and polka-dot prints, was all the proof we needed.

The company says in a statement that while Spade had not been affiliated with its "beloved brand" for more than a decade, she and her husband were its founders, and the news of her death is "incredibly sad". Perhaps these items are authentic, perhaps not.

Andy Spade said his main concern is protecting their 13-year-old daughter's privacy as she deals with "unimaginable grief". "Kate Spade changed EVERYTHING".

Staff had agreed to fly to NY to pick up Spade and take her to the clinic, according to Ms Saffo.

Adam Best: "Let's make sure the tragic suicide of Kate Spade is not all for nothing and learn from this".

But as is often the case with archetypal New Yorkers, she wasn't actually born in Manhattan. "Our thoughts are with Andy and the entire Spade family at this time". Although the business still bears her name, she sold the majority of the business to Neiman Marcus in 1999. "She was every bit the representation of that brand, and the fun of it all". "Oh man, Kate Spade was one of the most successful entrepreneurs in fashion". One can only imagine where the company would be today if Kate herself was still running it. Rest in peace, Kate Spade.

Designer Kenneth Cole, Chelsea Clinton, and Lena Dunham were just a few of those who took to social media to share their memories of Spade and her colorful accessories.

Her legacy will live on and her contribution to fashion is being recognised with glowing tributes. People started sharing their first Kate Spade handbag moments.
