Dwight Howard headed from Charlotte Hornets to Brooklyn Nets

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Hornets have sent Howard to the Nets in exchange for center Timofey Mozgov, two future second-round picks and cash. Shortly after, Yahoo Sports' Shams Charania confirmed the deal and the pieces being flipped.

The 32-year-old Howard played only one season for Charlotte, averaging 16.6 points and 12.5 rebounds per game. That's right, the former Defensive Player of The Year, 8x All-Star, and 8x All-NBA Player is worth no more to Hornets than an overpriced, bench-level big man and some second rounders. The deal cannot be made official until the league lifts its moratorium on July 6. While adding Walker could potentially aid the Cavs in re-signing James, Cleveland possesses assets - the No. 8 pick in Thursday's draft and expiring contracts - which could help the Hornets tear their roster down while simultaneously infusing it with youth.

The Brooklyn Nets are the latest team to acquire the services of center Dwight Howard.

Some of the notable possible National Basketball Association free agents that season include Klay Thompson, Deandre Jordan, and Kemba Walker, according to Spotrac.

While the move allows the Hornets to unload Howard's contract and save about $7 million under this year's salary cap, it is a bit of a gamble because Mozgov has two years remaining on his current deal at $16 million per year. Yet, for Howard, it's not the numbers that are the problem... it's everything else. Point guard D'Angelo Russell reacted to the big news.
