FORECAST | Sizzling Father's Day weekend

  • Record heat possible this weekend

St. Louis and surrounding areas will have to deal with risky heat through the Father's Day weekend into early next week.

It turns hotter and more humid on Monday.

Overnight tonight, we will still remain comfortable under mostly cloudy skies with lows in the mid 50s to near 60.

Combine those highs with dew points and heat index numbers climb into the mid 90s to even triple-digits during peak heating hours.

SUNDAY: Mostly sunny, with a high near 89.

The Chambersburg, Gettysburg, York, Lancaster, Lebanon, Carlisle, Harrisburg, Lewistown and Newport areas are all expected to reach a heat index level of at least 100 on Monday.

Isolated showers and storms are possible during the afternoon hours, although most of the day should be dry. The over-all weather does not change much, but there is a significant daily difference between those getting the downpours and those who miss them! A cold front settles in toward midweek, taming the heat just a bit, but also bringing back the chance for showers and storms.

On Friday we will see warmer than normal conditions with temperatures near 26°C.

Today there may be a few high clouds early otherwise we'll have plenty of sunshine with highs in the upper 90s to low 100s.

Understanding the chance of rain in summer: How in the world can you apply a 10%, 30% or 50% chance of rain to what's really going to happen?

TUESDAY: There will be a 40 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms.

Some of these storms near the OH border could be on the stronger side with damaging winds and some hail possible.
