Giuliani: Trump isn't planning to issue pardons during Russian Federation probe

  • Giuliani says Trump could issue pardons after Russia probe

Trump has criticized that decision as "very unfair" as Manafort prepares for two criminal trials.

When asked if and when Mr. Trump would sit down with Mueller's team of investigators for an interview, Giuliani said he advised against it, but said his client is intent on providing his version of events.

So far, 20 people have been indicted and at least four are cooperating with Mueller's investigators.

Mr. Giuliani supports the idea of having IG Horowitz investigate the origins of the Russian Federation probe to determine whether it is trustworthy. That's what he did on the Sunday shows.

Giuliani called for Mueller to suspend his investigation after Inspector General Michael Horowitz released his highly anticipated report on Thursday.

Giuliani, an outspoken attorney for the President, repeatedly suggested the probe had questionable origins and echoed some of the President's rhetoric about the investigation being unfair.

"It's crying out for someone to investigate the investigators. I mean, it's happened", Mr. Giuliani replied.

The president weighed in Sunday on Twitter with his opinion of the Mueller probe, again calling it a "WITCH HUNT!" and declaring that law enforcement officials had a "Double Standard!" in their investigations of him and Hillary Clinton.

"The top people were awful", Trump said. If the president does not agree, it's unclear whether Mueller would try to compel his testimony with a grand jury-issued subpoena.

More recently, Robert Mueller has, as Politico noted, steamrolled President Trump's campaign against him; Paul Manafort was sent to jail over accusations of witness tampering. Manafort was taken into custody and transported to a jail in Virginia about 90 miles south of Washington.

Although Trump has sought to distance himself from Manafort by minimizing his campaign role, Manafort joined Trump's team in early 2016 and was campaign chairman until August, including during the critical weeks culminating in Trump's nomination at the Republican National Convention. Trump claimed his original, false, explanation about the meeting was "irrelevant" because he gave the statement to the New York Times and not "a high tribunal of judges".

There is no indication when Mueller's investigation might end. The president is not going to issue pardons in this investigation.

Even so, he said, "When it's over, hey, he's the president of the United States". "I couldn't and I don't want to take any prerogatives away from him". "He can pardon, in his judgment".

Giuliani told a Wall Street Journal reporter that Trump will not pardon anyone involved in the investigation. Appearing after Giuliani on CBS, Sen.

Sen. Susan Collins of ME said on CBS' "Face the Nation" that she thought it was helpful Giuliani has recommended against pardons.
