In France, Netanyahu predicts collapse of Iran deal under United States sanctions pressure

  • Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif is interviewed by The Associated Press in New York

The country's Atomic Energy Organisation spokesman Behrouz Kamalvandi told ISNA news agency a letter would be handed over to the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Last month, President Donald Trump pulled the United States out of the deal that set strict limits on Iran's uranium enrichment in return for the lifting of worldwide sanctions.

But he also said Iran will continue adhering to the 2015 nuclear deal and that the country's nuclear activities will remain within the limits set by the accord.

Shortly after Khamenei's speech, French automaker PSA announced it was pulling out of two joint ventures to sell its cars in Iran owing to the United States sanctions.

Before the deal was signed, Iran had reached 20 percent enrichment. He also said Iran could no longer have any dealings with the US.

He said the global community should seek to curb Iran's ballistic missile program through a separate deal, and not by re-vamping the existing agreement.

Merkel has acknowledged that while European powers see the JCPOA as the best guarantee against an Iran with nuclear weapons, it is "not perfect".

Israel's intelligence minister called for a military coalition against Iran if the Islamic Republic were to defy world powers by enriching military-grade uranium.

"We have made it clear that we will never allow Iran to develop a nuclear weapon, even if we have to face it alone".

Israel responded to a threatening tweet by Iran on Monday with a GIF from the hit movie "Mean Girls".

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu meets with French leaders Tuesday in Paris as he continues efforts to persuade European leaders to alter the global nuclear agreement with Iran.

In return, Iran received relief from sanctions, most of which were dropped in January 2016.

It is doing so in Syria, in Yemen and other places", the Israeli prime minister said, adding that in Syria, Iran was trying to place its forces "with the explicit goal of...

Khamenei, who makes the final decisions on all major policies in Iran, on Monday warned that anyone who fires one missile at his country "will be hit by 10" in response, but dismissed fears of war as "propaganda" by the West.

For all of Iran's fierce public riposte to USA threats of tougher sanctions, some senior Iranian officials see the US position as a "bargaining strategy" and believe the door to a diplomatic compromise should stay open.

Earlier, Netanyahu said the Iranian plan to increase its nuclear enrichment capacity was aimed at producing nuclear weapons to be used against Israel, its archrival. The people of Iran and the government of Iran will never tolerate both suffering from sanctions and nuclear restrictions.

PSA followed in the footsteps of French oil giant Total, whose chief executive said last week that the chances of winning exemptions to the United States sanctions were "very slim".
