  • Panama fans react before their 2018 World Cup Group G match against England at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium in Nizhny Novgorod

Harry Kane has scored the most goals for England at a World Cup in 28 years, after netting twice in the first half against Panama.

Gareth Southgate admits that he "didn't particularly like the performance" from his England side despite running out 6-1 winners over Panama at the World Cup.

England went into half-time with a 5-0 lead and each team scored once in the second half, leading Southgate to say it was an odd game after the high emotions of Kane's late victor to beat Tunisia in their first game. Not many players get to score a hat-trick in the World Cup.

Kane's three goals moved him into the lead with five at this year's tournament, one more than Cristiano Ronaldo and Romelu Lukaku after two games.

Intriguingly, it also means they are level on points, goal difference and goals scored with Belgium in Group G. The two sides meet in Kaliningrad on Thursday.

From there Belgium went on to win the match comfortably, but it certainly was not routine for the side, and numerous Belgium faithful remain unconvinced by manager Martinez, though Lampard believes if he can get his tactics right, then they will be a real threat this summer.

Kane said: "I'm very proud".

Buoyed by their impressive performance and last minute victor against Tunisia on Monday the Three Lions produced a breathtaking first half display that saw John Stones score two headers, Harry Kane blast home a brace of penalties, and Jesse Lingard sore a stunning goal from outside of the area.

He said his third goal, which came from a Ruben Loftus-Cheek shot that deflected off the English captain's heel into the net, "was one of the luckiest of my career".

"We were ruthless in front of goal", Southgate said.

England manager Gareth Southgate has heaped praise on the Russian Federation 2018 World Cup infrastructure and stadiums and admits he and his team have "been really looked after" in the country.

Kane's hat-trick against Panama was the cherry on top of a superb display from England.

All right Gary, let's not get too carried away.

"They feel a bit closer to the fans than previous teams - and that probably comes from the manager", added Runtwe, who was wearing a vintage 2001 England shirt.

England will now play Belgium in Kaliningrad on Thursday with the victor of that match advancing from the group in first place.
