Marin Cilic resists Novak Djokovic comeback to claim Queen's title

  • Kyrgios won through in three sets to continue his fine form on grass

Murray, 31, made his competitive return on Tuesday at Queen's, where he lost in three sets to Nick Kyrgios. "I have to keep my expectations very low, considering my results in the last 12 months. It was a tough match, with no breaks for me until the final set".

Cilic, who had missed six break point chances in the first, saved two set points - the second courtesy of a Hawkeye overrule on a forehand that clipped the line - but the 12-time Grand Slam champion kept pushing and eventually converted. "I was more kind of like chipping and trying to get it back in play, but it wasn't enough".

The deadlock in that was broken at 4-4 when, on a second deuce, Cilic used his enormous wingspan to hit a miraculous forehand victor down the line to set up a break point, which was converted when Djokovic netted a straightforward backhand. I haven't been in any finals for a year, so this felt great.

Cilic found himself under the cosh at the start of the second, with Djokovic looking to finish him off, but the 2017 Wimbledon runner-up held his nerve to deny him two chances to break. I feel that I'm playing great. "I wouldn't say I'm a contender for a trophy or anything like that", Djokovic said.

Cilic, who was the runner-up at Wimbledon past year and at the Australian Open this season, will be playing his fourth Queen's Club final. As Nick Kyrgios said before losing against him in the semi-finals, Cilic will be among the favourites at Wimbledon. Djokovic said when asked how he would cope with the power of Cilic's serve.

The top seed raised his game when it mattered most, winning both tiebreakers against the Australian in a match which featured no breaks of serve.

The Croatian snatched at the opportunity as he won six points in a row to take the match to a third set.

Like the world No 8 Kvitova, Rybarikova has fine grass-court pedigree, having reached last year's Wimbledon semi-finals, and it showed in the opener as she seized the advantage.

He closed out victory in 1 hour, 32 minutes.
