The mother, 32-year-old Sandra Sanchez, was detained with her almost 2-year-old daughter, Yanela, at a facility in McAllen Tex., Varela said.

Video footage of separated children sitting in cages, an audiotape of wailing children and Moore's photo had sparked worldwide anger over Trump's immigration policies.

According to TIME, John Moore, a Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer for Getty Images, has been photographing immigrants crossing the U.S. -Mexico border for years.

The image spread like a California grassfire.

TIME's new cover: A reckoning after Trump's border separation policy: What kind of country are we?

Multiple news outlets used the photograph as a symbol of the pain of families being separated by USA government officials.

Actress Olivia Wilde reminded her followers that with the thousands of kids still detained apart from their parents, "This is far from over". The image is accompanied with the caption, "Welcome to America".

Moore told the Washington Post earlier this week that he had assumed they would be separated: "In his head, he weighed the girl's chances".

But he learned this week that his wife and daughter were not, in fact, separated. "All I wanted to do was pick her up". "I can only imagine what dangers she'd passed through, alone with the girl". "I took only a few photographs and was nearly overcome with emotion myself".

The spotlighted toddler and her mother, whose names have not been released, crossed onto US soil from Mexico last week.

Though he said she had planned to apply for political asylum, Hernandez did not mention any political persecution that might have justified the claim.

"I've worked in this business for many years and oftentimes we cover stories that we think are really important but in the end they may not resonate with the public", said Moore.

At first, not much was known about the mother and daughter or what happened to them.

The PM also called Australia's system "humane" and "compassionate" said families stayed together.

Asked if he would also like to come to the US, he said, "of course, someday".

ICE said Sanchez was previously deported to Honduras in July 2013. He took it during a ride-along with a Customs and Border Patrol agent on June 12. On June 17, 2018, Sanchez was transferred to ICE custody, and is now housed at the South Texas Family Residential Center in Dilley, Texas.

On July 3, 2013, Sanchez was encountered by immigration officials in Hebbronville, Texas.
