The historic summit between President Trump and Kim Jong-un would be the first between sitting USA and North Korean leaders. Singapore has designated a special event area of the Sentosa island tourist resort for Tuesday's historic summit, which is expected to be covered by over 2,500 journalists from across the world. North Koreans did not take it kindly when US Vice President Mike Pence talked of "Libya model" approach towards North Korea.

Pompeo, who has met Kim twice in the recent past, said the North Korean leader was very capable of articulating the things that he was prepared to do, presents clearly the challenges that they all have to overcome. "But I think I've been prepared for this summit for a long time". It's about the attitude.

"As has the other side..." If you're not going to be able to walk away - we didn't walk away from the frightful Iran deal that was signed, and if you look at what's happened, since I signed that deal, Iran and in all fairness, I say it with great respect for the people of Iran, but Iran is acting a lot differently.

Mr Trump said that even though the talks are subject to change, he hopes they go ahead. "Well, it's gonna be much more than a photo-op".

"I think it's not a one-meeting deal", he said. "I told him that I. would never do this in Singapore because it is against your rules to protest", he told The Associated Press.

"They've been doing this for a long time".

"Maybe we'll start with the White House", he told reporters after he was asked whether he would invite the North Korean leader to the White House or Mar-a-lago. And that's something very important toward the ultimate making of a deal, he said. "They have to denuke". "If they don't denuclearize, that will not be acceptable".

"We can't step through this over years, but rather need to acknowledge it will take some amount of time, that this doesn't happen instantaneously. It's what happens after the agreement that really is the big point", he said. I think he would look at it very favorably. "So, it's a big difference".

As recently as 2013, more than 100 people were arrested under the law, although the U.S-government funded Freedom House says that number dropped to seven past year. "We are going to travel there", the US Secretary of State said. "This has been going on for many, many decades".

At another point, he said it was "absolutely" possible he and Kim could sign a declaration to end the Korean War.

He added that he has not had any response from the administration about his comments and does not expect them to upset the North Koreans.

Responding to a question, Trump said that the maximum pressure is absolutely in effect. "Perhaps after that negotiation, I will be using it again".

The plans for summit between U.S. and North Korea went through a tumultuous phase with leaders on both sides making various statements.

While conveying hopes for a successful summit in Singapore, . "Today with President Trump, our discussion was focused on issue of North Korea".

After what seemed like a lost opportunity, the summit between US and North Korea is officially back on cards. "This has already driven us to a place we'd not been able to achieve".

Since a beaming Kim held a summit in April with South Korean President Moon Jae-in, the In & Out cafe in Jeonju city, three hours south of the capital Seoul, has been serving lattes decorated with frothy images of the two leaders. More than 2,500 people from the local and worldwide news media are expected to cover the event in Singapore, according to the number of registrations received by the ministry of communications and information.

The highly anticipated summit in Singapore is five days away as the two sides try to reach a deal on dismantling North Korea's nuclear weapons program in exchange for security guarantees. The North has faced crippling diplomatic and economic sanctions as it has advanced development of its nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
