CBS Corp. chief executive officer Leslie Moonves will remain on the job while the board of the broadcast giant seeks an outside counsel to investigate allegations of sexual harassment.

His comments came hours after CBS said its board had made a decision to select "outside counsel to conduct an independent investigation" into claims that Moonves had engaged in inappropriate sexual behavior with six women.

On Friday, word got out that The New Yorker was about to publish allegations that Moonves sexually harassed six women. "Make no mistake, Les Moonves is my guy", he said. Board members meet via conference call on Monday.

Leslie Moonves, president and CEO of CBS Corporation speaks at the Wall Street Journal Digital Live conference at the Montage hotel in Laguna Beach, California, US October 21, 2015.

CBS said on Monday it would postpone its 2018 annual shareholder meeting that was previously scheduled for August 10 to an unspecified date. Chen says she has already made one statement on the matter and she will "stand by that statement today, tomorrow, forever".

Shares in CBS, after two straight days of setbacks that cut their value by 11%, have re-entered positive territory this morning, rising a fraction to about $51.50. He has also been waging a battle for independence with mogul Shari Redstone, who wants to combine CBS with its sibling company Viacom.

She said she fully supports him.

"While the emotional reaction is to sell CBS on the release of the long-rumored and damaging New Yorker article regarding CBS CEO Les Moonves, we believe the stock is undervalued", Gould noted.

"I'm not actually sure what I said in response, but he said, 'Look, you're really expensive and I need to know you're worth it, ' " she recalled.

Chen who shares son Charlie, 8, with Moonves, previously described her husband as a "devoted husband and inspiring corporate leader". When she rebuffed his advance and asked what he was doing, he replied, "Well, I was hitting on you". Moonves issued a statement apologizing for some of his past actions but reiterated that he never used his position of power to hinder anyone's career.

"Regardless of Moonves' personal fate, his future and the future of nine other CBS board of directors is now in question".

Colbert kicked off CBS' "Late Show" on Monday night joking that he heard over the weekend that there was an article about Moonves in the New Yorker, but acted as though he didn't know who wrote it.
