Microsoft finished Q4 2018 with over $30 billion Dollars in revenue, a 17% increase, in part due to cloud services and gaming growth, according to the company's earnings release on Thursday.

If you needed any (more) evidence that Microsoft's Cloud platform is the future of the company, for the year ended June 30th, Microsoft smashed earnings expectations with Net Income of $8.9 billion.

Chief financial officer Amy Hood said there was "double-digit revenue growth across all segments. anchored by commercial cloud revenue growing 53pc year-over-year to $6.9bn".

CEO Satya Nadella said the company's investments in cloud and edge computing were paying off as Microsoft topped $100 billion in revenue for the year.

In all, Microsoft continues to rack up some impressive consumer-facing wins even as the company evolves into a mature 1990's IBM-like hybrid business.

Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) released its 4th quarter fiscal 2018 results yesterday and it posted a solid beat on both revenue and earnings per share. While cloud adoption is growing-Azure revenue was up 89 percent-perpetual-license revenue was also up by 8 percent, showing continued demand for on-premises systems. Without that, the company would have been looking at a net income of $30.3 billion, up 18 percent on 2017.

Analyst Patrick Moorhead at Moor Insights & Strategy said Microsoft's results showed healthy growth.

On the consumer side, Office revenue growth has slowed down.

In a major deal announced this week, Microsoft and Walmart unveiled a strategic partnership to help the retail giant ramp up its efforts against Amazon.

This statement is in line with what Phil Spencer, the executive president of gaming at Microsoft, stated at the company's press conference during E3 2018, in which Spencer noted the company's plans for a game-streaming service which could deliver "console quality gaming" regardless of the device used.

Xbox Live subscriptions actually declined this quarter, from 59 million in Q3 to 57 million, but that figure is still up 8 percent over a year ago. It earned $5 billion with the professional networking platform LinkedIn.

The Surface family of products contributed $1.19 billion to Microsoft coffers and was ever so slightly up from the previous quarter, but up 23% for the year.
