Next iPhone to come in variety of colors

  • Apple might release new iPhone colors this year, including red, blue, and orange (AAPL)

This year, Apple is rumored to launch three new iPhones. "Apple is expected to launch the largest display on an iPhone to date this year, with the 6.5" OLED iPhone X (s) Plus.

"Unlike most Apple devices, the 6.1" device will reportedly ship with a variety of color options, including red, orange, blue, grey and white. Apple has also sold cases in the past to give you more color options. However, given the popularity of smartphones with red color among consumers, the company might offer the LCD iPhone with a slightly different shade of red right at launch.

Apple has tended to stick to rather muted colors for most of its iPhone models, though with Rose Gold being added to the range as of the iPhone 6s, and a Product (RED) iPhone first seen in the iPhone 7. The "premium" handsets come with more "premium" colors, while the cheaper smartphones have more vibrant colors.

Also, if we look at the larger smartphone market, it seems after years of playing it safe (especially in the U.S. where multiple companies have told me that most consumers tend to stick with boring black or silver devices), handset makers are finally starting to get more adventurous with phones - such as the gorgeous Huawei P20 Pro and its special chameleon paint job, the sweet signature Lilac Purple finish on the Galaxy S9, and the Xiaomi Mi 8 and HTC U12+ which both have versions sporting transparent backs.

Apple wasn't immediately available to comment on the report.

In addition to a new color for the higher-end iPhones, the larger 6.5-inch OLED model will carry a similar price to the current $999 iPhone X. Both of these models should have better specs as well. Those features will, however, be available in the other models. An unnamed industry official said that "initially, Apple will get between 3 million and 5 million OLED displays from LG Display".

Out of the three new iPhones for the year, two will jointly take the crown for users attention.
