  • Ohio State team doctor warned, former coach says

Lawyers in the investigation had previously tried to schedule an interview with Jordan, Porter Wright partner Kathleen Trafford said Tuesday.

Baier played a video of Mike DiSabato - one wrestler who has appeared on CNN repeatedly to accuse Jordan of knowing about the abuse - claiming talk of the abuse was frequent in the team's "locker room conversations".

What a rep for Jordan had to say after NBC News published its article: "Congressman Jordan never saw any abuse, never heard about any abuse and never had any abuse reported to him during his time as a coach at Ohio State". One man said he directly reported the abuse to Jordan; all four said Jordan could not have been unaware of the inappropriate behavior. Wrestlers have said Strauss routinely showered with students and touched them inappropriately during exams.

In the video, former head wrestling coach Russ Hellickson, who arrived at Ohio State in 1986, doesn't specify whether athletes came to him with allegations of abuse, but says he talked to the doctor about physical contact with the wrestlers. The source added that the messages were vaguely threatening in nature in part because of the amount of emails sent, and that Jordan did not respond to the emails because he felt the man was "bullying him"'. No question in my mind.

"We knew of no abuse, never heard of abuse".

High-profile Republican congressman accused of ignoring allegations while coaching wrestling at the university; correspondent Ellison Barber reports on what both sides are saying.

Mike DiSabato, one of the former wrestlers who's come forward with the accusations, has called Jordan a "liar" over his denials.

"He knew", DiSabato said in a brief phone interview with The Washington Post.

The aide said Jordan's office contacted Capitol Police about the threats, which DiSabato denies having made.

"He'd even make comments, 'This guy better not touch me, '" Yetts said.

As ThinkProgress previously noted, Jordan has always been thought to be a top contender to replace House Speaker Paul Ryan, once Ryan steps down in November, and enjoys the full support of several high-profile members of Congress, as well as the president himself. "If we had, we would have reported it", Jordan told CNN on Wednesday. I believe Jim Jordan 100 percent.

Doug Andres says the university has "rightfully initiated a full investigation into the matter" and the speaker will "await the findings of that inquiry". But those NBC News spoke with say that just isn't so.

"We all did", Dailey, 43, told NBC News. "It was very common knowledge in the locker room that if you went to Dr. Strauss for anything, you would have to pull your trousers down".

Dr. Strauss's inappropriate touching of athletes was open knowledge, he said, and he remembered talking about it with Mr. Jordan on road trips, in the sauna and after practices.
