  • Trump names EU a global foe, raps media before Putin summit

The March 20 call came after Putin was re-elected, and was the same call in which Trump was given briefing materials instructing him not to congratulate Putin.

"I think the European Union is a foe, what they do to us in trade", he said in an interview to CBS News while in Scotland. Beyond that, Huntsman said it was "highly unlikely" that Trump will recognize Russia's 2014 annexation of Crimea at the summit, but would not rule it out completely.

But the campaigners marching in the "Helsinki Calling" rally today aren't just protesting Donald Trump- they are also targeting Russian President Vladimir Putin as well.

He said Russian Federation is a foe "in certain respects" and that China is a foe "economically. but that doesn't mean they are bad".

He described the European Union, a bloc of nation's that includes many of America's closest allies, as a "foe", particularly on trade.

On Friday, a federal grand jury indicted the 12 Russian intelligence officers on charges they hacked into Democratic campaign networks in 2016 and then stole and released tens of thousands of documents. It doesn't mean anything.

Trump, a 72-year-old former NY real estate developer who praises his own deal-making skills, and Putin, a 65-year-old former KGB spy who cultivates a macho image as a man of action, are due to have some time alone at the summit.

Noting that Putin's government jails journalists critical of the Russian state, Karl asked Bolton if Trump's temperament toward the press is similar to Putin's.

But he told CBS that he was going into it with "low expectations". He is also the co-author of How Trump Won: The Inside Story of a Revolution, which is available from Regnery.

When asked about the possibility of requesting the officials be extradited to the United States, Trump said he "might" bring it up during his meeting with Putin.

Trump has repeatedly said the investigation into suspected Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election - which he casts as a "rigged witch hunt" - makes it hard for him to do substantive deals with Moscow.

The indictment does not allege that Trump campaign associates were involved in the hacking efforts or that any American was knowingly in contact with Russian intelligence officers. Trump did congratulate Putin on his victory, a source told CNN at the time.

The top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, Mark Warner, said he was anxious about Trump being alone in the room with Putin, without his national-security aides. "Nothing bad is going to come out of it, and maybe some good will come out", the president said in broadcast excerpts.

Officials in Russian Federation say they are looking forward to the meeting.

Jeffrey Mankoff, a Russian Federation expert at the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies said: 'Trump has maybe a little less room to maneuver if he wants to downplay the issue or pretend that it's not real'. "He kind of goes in and wings it", Warner said on NBC's Meet the Press.

Starting in at least March 2016, the Conspirators used a variety of means to hack the email accounts of volunteers and employees of the USA presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton ... including the email account of the Clinton Campaign's chairman... Alongside Russia and China, Trump mentioned the European Union, which includes several of the oldest, closest allies of the United States, when asked about the country's global foes.

Vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee Mark Warner said if the meeting was to forward, Americans need to be in the room with the pair.

Mr Trump has said the investigation into the suspected Russian interference - which he casts as a "rigged witch hunt" - makes it hard for him to do substantive deals with Moscow.
