Trump's ex-lawyer fires what could be a warning shot

  • Michael Cohen:

More than 1.3 million pieces of potential evidence seized from President Donald Trump's personal lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen earlier this year were turned over to federal prosecutors Monday.

Michael Cohen, the former attorney for President Donald Trump and a close member of the business mogul's inner circle, found himself at the center of a federal investigation for a number of charges.

He went on to reiterate that his family is "my first priority", and when reminded that he previously said he would "take a bullet" for Trump, Cohen said, "To be crystal clear: my wife, my daughter and my son and this country have my first loyalty".

Cohen, Trump's longtime attorney and consigliere, is the subject of a federal criminal investigation led by the FBI and the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of NY, which executed an April 9 raid for evidence on Cohen's home, office and hotel room.

"I don't agree with those who demonize or vilify the FBI", Cohen said. "I respect the Federal Bureau of Investigation as an institution, as well as their agents", Cohen said, rejecting the notion of a 'witch hunt, ' Trump's favorite name to call the protracted 'Russiagate'.

On May 2, the watchdog organization sought "all records of communications" between Rosenstein and the US attorney's office for the Southern District of NY "about Michael Cohen and/or the executed search warrants of Cohen's office, home, and hotel room", plus "all records of communications" between Mueller and the attorney's office "about Michael Cohen and/or the executed search warrants of Cohen's office, home, and hotel room".

"I will not be a punching bag as part of anyone's defense strategy", Cohen said. I don't want him to shut up, but I'll reserve judgment until he puts up. "Nonetheless, the agents were respectful, courteous and professional. One day I will answer", he told Stephanopoulos.

Cohen, who worked for Trump over the past decade, is the focus of an investigation in the Southern District of NY into whether he violated campaign-finance laws or committed bank fraud, wire fraud, illegal lobbying, or other crimes.

Cohen repeated previous denials that he had any involvement with Russian attempts to interfere with the 2016 presidential election, but he refused to criticize the investigation led by former FBI Director Robert Mueller. "If Michael Cohen has damaging criminal information about POTUS/Manafort/Jared Kushner/Donald Jr., this would be a disaster for them". "And I wouldn't be surprised if we saw the president signal some public signs of support to Michael Cohen to try to quell some of his concerns, because obviously the pressure is tightening up on him".

"I believe it was a mistake by those from the Trump campaign who did participate", Cohen said. Cohen's comments that Stormy Daniels' lawyer is small potatoes simply isn't true.

"Let's think about why Cohen, lawyered up and a lawyer himself, would make this deliberate move.I say it's to make Trump grovel, promise to pay his legal fees and pardon him, or he flips", Bloom tweeted.

Mr Cohen also told ABC he did not agree with Mr Trump's recent tweet repeating Vladimir Putin's claim that Russian Federation did not interfere in the election. "I respect the Federal Bureau of Investigation as an institution, as well as their agents", Cohen said. In a statement released in February, he confirmed making the payment but said, "Neither the Trump Organization nor the Trump campaign was a party to the transaction with Ms. Clifford, and neither reimbursed me for the payment, either directly or indirectly". "I want to regain my name and my reputation and my life back", he said.
