They said there were no passengers on board.

"It's super scary when you think about how fast those planes are moving, the distance from Ketron Island to these houses in minuscule".

An airline employee has stolen and crashed a passenger plane in Seattle.

Instead, the sheriff's office said the cause of the crash could have been either the pilot's inexperience, or his decision to pull mid-air stunts during his short flight.

The incident was not considered terrorism, the FBI's Seattle office tweeted.

The plane thief "is confirmed a suicidal male", Troyer wrote. We know how he is.

Alaska Air said the F-15s were scrambled from a Portland air base.

It crashed near Ketron Island in Pierce County, the airline tweeted, adding that "we believe" nobody besides the man was on board.

In a video posted to Alaska Airlines' verified YouTube page late Friday night, Horizon Air's Chief Operating Officer, Constance von Muehlen, said the plane was taken by a Horizon Air employee, and no other passenger or crew were onboard.

Some Seattle-bound flights were diverted to Vancouver.

Alaska Airlines acknowledged the incident in a statement, saying "We are aware of an incident involving an unauthorized take-off of a Horizon Air Q400". KIRO 7 further reports that a mechanic who works at the airport took the plane and flew it south along the coast, doing maneuvers.

"I got a lot of people that care about me", he said on the recording. "I don't know what the burnage is like on takeoff, but it burned quite a bit faster than I expected". Only the unknown pilot was on the plane. The identity and condition of the pilot are not known.

He said he didn't want to disappoint them but that he was "just a broken guy, got a dew screws loose, I guess". I would like to apologise to each and every one of them.

Witnesses reported seeing the plane being chased by military aircraft before it crashed on Ketron Island, southwest of Tacoma, Washington. We're trying to get accurate information about what is actually going on. "I was hoping that was going to be it, ya know".

He is believed to have been suicidal when he stole the plane capable of carrying 76 passengers.

Witness Royal King told The Seattle Times he was photographing a wedding when he saw the low-flying turboprop being chased by two F-15s.
