Aretha Franklin Is Reportedly In 'Gravely Ill' Condition

The Queen of Soul is said to be 'gravely ill, ' according to Showbiz 411.

Investigative reporter Harry Hairston says he spoke with a close friend of Aretha Franklin and was told the "Iconic singer not doing well". She is most well known for her song "Respect".

He added that she was previously diagnosed with cancer in 2010, but had "bravely battled back" from this.

After a 56-year career, Aretha Franklin made a decision to put down the mic and announced her retirement in 2017, according to WDIV.

Franklin, who last performed in public in November 2017 for the Elton John AIDS Foundation's 25th anniversary gala, has struggled with health issues in recent years.

As a child, Franklin began singing gospel at New Bethel Baptist Church in Detroit, where her father, C. L. Franklin, was minister.

'But her legacy is larger than life. She will be so missed as a mother, sister, friend, cousin.

"I am retiring this year", she told a Detroit news outlet in February in 2017, reports Rolling Stone.

She said at the time: "I will be recording, but this will be my past year in concert".

The "Queen of Soul" has been battling numerous health problems which caused her to cancel a concert series past year, per doctor's orders, according to BET.

Speaking warmly about her incredible career, she said she felt "exuberant" about her plans as she vowed to do "some select things, maybe one a month, for six months out of the year".
