"Yesterday, at 11:19 a.m. we did find remains of a young boy", said Taos County Sheriff Jerry L. Hogrefe said. Authorities announced Tuesday that a child's body was found at the site.
Police are still are looking for 4-year-old AG Wahhaj, reported missing from Georgia's Clayton County, Hogrefe said.
Investigators said that's where they found Siraj Wahhaj living in a filthy trailer in what police described as some sort of makeshift compound in some of the worst conditions they've ever seen.
A child's body has now been found at the New Mexico compound where police earlier found 11 starving children.
The Taos County sheriff identified the women facing charges as Jany Leveille, 35, Hujrah Wahhaj, 38, and Subhannah Wahhaj, 35. Wahhaj also faces an abduction charge for allegedly kidnapping the child from his Georgia home a year ago. The remains were found on Monday, Abdul's 4th birthday.
The children were turned over to state child welfare workers.
The sheriff said authorities learned more details after the raid and returned Monday with a good idea of where to search for Abdul-Ghani.
New Mexico authorities had suspicions that the father and son may be at the compound after learning in May about the abduction, the sheriff said. The child's mother became concerned, especially because the little boy suffers from seizures, developmental, and cognitive delays and is unable to walk due to suffering a Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy at birth.
The missing boy's father, who the sheriff said was heavily armed when taken into custody, was identified as Siraj Wahhaj, 39.
40-year-old Siraj Wahhaj took his son and disappeared just under a year ago.
Anderson said the 11 children found inside the compound at first played at neighboring properties but stopped in recent months. We pray to Allah that Allah protect him.
"We are starving and need food and water". He was also a character witness for convicted 1993 World Trade Center bombing mastermind Omar Abdel-Rahman.
Hogrefe had previously described the residents of the compound as extremist. "But I haven't seen him since then", Ramzi said Tuesday. A warrant was issued in Georgia for Wahhaj's arrest on January 9.
On Friday, eight members of the Sheriff's office raided the compound and discovered the children, who were dressed in dirty rags. Their big break came Thursday when law enforcement officials received a message, setting off a series of actions that led them to the compound the next day. "For me, that was the breaking point, where I thought we finally had enough probable cause to put in an affidavit for a search warrant and present it to a district judge", the sheriff said.
He proposed the group "swap" the property for land Badger said the group had purchased not far away from his home in Northern New Mexico. The court case over a purchase agreement between the Badgers and Morton was dismissed.
But a tip forwarded to Georgia detective last week set off a series of events that led to a raid at the New Mexico compound.
The two men were charged with eleven counts of child abuse, while the women were released.
The 11 children have been taken into care by local social services.
"Mr Wahhaj seemed to be very concerned about his weapons and stated several times that they were his property and that he owned them legally", the report said.
