Google Employees Demand Oversight of China Censored Search Engine Plan

Google employees penned a similar petition earlier this year in protest of Project Maven, a contract with the Pentagon for artificial intelligence work they said could be used for lethal purposes.
The former employees said they doubt the government will welcome back Google.
Google co-founder Sergey Brin also spoke to the staff on Thursday (Aug 16) at the company's all-hands meeting, saying that Google isn't compromising its principles.
Google, which has never spoken publicly about the plans, declined to comment.
Dragonfly is reported to be an effort to provide search and personalized mobile news to China, in compliance with Chinese government censorship and surveillance requirements. Few companies have as much regular open and frank communication about sensitive subjects with their staff, and the thinking is that leaks would make them impossible.
