  • BREAKING: Osinbajo sacks DSS Boss, Lawal Daura

Mr Melaye, while briefing his colleagues at the National Assembly lobby on the impeachment plot by members of the PSG, said the APC national chairman Adams Oshiomhole was in a meeting with Pro-Buhari senators to collect signatures for Saraki and Ekweremadu's impeachment.

In a statement on Tuesday, a former Deputy Director General of the Nigerian Law School, Prof Ernest Ojukwu (SAN), said the acting President had "renewed great hope that our democracy shall survive".

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday sacked the erstwhile Director-General, Department of State Security (DSS), Lawal Daura, in the aftermath of the siege on the National Assembly by security operatives acting on his instruction.

He is Matthew Benabafa Seiyefa, who until his appointment was the director in charge of the Institute of Security Studies (ISS), an institution established in 2005 as the cardinal training institution for the DSS.

The blockade came amid heightened tensions between lawmakers and the presidency.

A Reuters witness said security agents, some of whom were masked, then allowed lawmakers to enter but continued to bar government agents and journalists.

After meeting with Osinbajo, he left the villa without speaking with reporters.

Osinbajo condemned the unauthorized takeover of the National Assembly complex, describing it as "a gross violation of constitutional order, rule of law and all acceptable notions of law and order".

The statement gave no reason for Daura's dismissal.

Some APC lawmakers also in recent interviews with newsmen, warned that there will be no peace until Saraki resigned as president of the Senate. Parliament went on recess last week until September 25 but meetings were to be held on Tuesday.

"Obviously, like I said, I have not got a detailed brief on that".
