Honor guards carry the remains of USA servicemen killed in the Korean War and collected in North Korea, during a ceremony at the Osan Air Base in Pyeongtaek, South Korea, Wednesday.

The 55 boxes, which North Korea returned last week, are scheduled to receive a formal send off at South Korea's Osan Air base before being loaded onto a C-17 transport plane on Wednesday afternoon and sent to a military laboratory in Hawaii for identification.

Indeed, North Korean military officials did not claim that every item in each box went together, he said.

Attention is also being drawn to whether they will discuss Seoul's idea of withdrawing forces and their equipment from border guard posts in stages on a "trial basis".

"They are likely to be American remains", he said. "We have lots of work to do".

"Meeting with Kim Jong Un was an interesting and very positive experience", Trump said in a tweet.

The letter goes on to refer to the return of the bodies of several dozen USA soldiers who died in North Korea in line, with an agreement struck between U.S. president Donald Trump and North Korea's Kim Jong-un.

During the meeting, Maharani invited a joint North and South Korean team to take part in the Asian Games, as part of efforts to improve relations between the countries and strengthen reconciliation progress on the Korean Peninsula.

More than 400 caskets of remains found in North Korea were returned to the United States between the 1990s and 2005, with the bodies of some 330 other Americans also accounted for, according to the DPAA. In the past, the regime has promised to return the remains of servicemen, but actually handed over unidentifiable bones of many people and some animals.

Nauert said that North Korean officials would be at some of the same meetings as State Department officials in the area. Many were buried in shallow graves near where they fell on the battlefield; some others died in North Korean or Chinese-run prisoner of war camps.

The lack of progress has been a source of concern for many observers, especially as worldwide sanctions are beginning to ease and news reports indicate that North Korea is continuing its nuclear and ballistic programs. Pompeo had previously included that word when stating US policy. The US halted joint efforts with North Korea on recovering remains during the George W. Bush administration as talks with Pyongyang faltered.

During the summit, Kim also agreed to "work toward complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula" in return for Trump's promise of security guarantees. It's not clear whether negotiations for such an arrangement are under way.

"Based upon previous experiences with this type of turnover from the [Democratic Republic of North Korea], most of the remains will take many months to a few years to identify", an official added.
