iOS 12, Apple's newest mobile operating system for iPhones and iPads, will be available to download starting Monday.

Also, keep in mind that the iOS 12 update only works with Apple devices from iPhone 5S on up. AR files can now be viewed almost anywhere in iOS, including apps like Messages, Safari, Mail, Files and News.

Apple is still going all-in on augmented reality, and iOS 12 pushes things forward with more precise face tracking, better 3D object recognition, and AR integrations in apps. But before you do that, it's important to do one thing: back up your iPhone or iPad so you don't lose your data.

The idea here is that if you happen to look at your phone when DND is enabled, you can still see the time but you won't feel obligated to reply to a message or email that's on your lock screen - because you can't even see the alerts.

So you can expect iOS 12, watchOS 5 and tvOS 12 to start going live at 6pm BST, 10 AM PT or 1PM ET today.

Unsurprisingly, iOS 12 is the most feature-packed of the group.

Notifications can now also be grouped and managed by app. Of course, the promised changes are minimal: Dolby Atmos support for the Apple TV 4K, the new Earth screensaver, tapping the touchpad to identify an Aerial screensaver location, password autofill, an automatically added Apple TV Remote button in an iOS 12 device's Control Center, and improvements for some TV providers (zero sign-on and cloud DVR support). You either manually turn it on, or schedule when you want your phone to quit begging for your attention with each new alert. While the focus is not on massive new features, but small updates such as improving performance on older devices, everyone should download this update because it adds certain security improvements and lots of nifty features.

Your iOS device will restart and iOS 12 will be installed. There's also a new Reading Now pane that combines your current reads with some smart recommendations from the Apple store, including ebooks popular with other users.

One of the big themes of Apple's software releases this fall is the opening up of Siri. Apple has this tool covered, thanks developers. Josh Centers devoted his summer to Take Control of iOS 12, so you can read that for the full rundown on what's new and necessary. Accompanying that is a new feature called Do Not Disturb that allows users to restrict access and notifications during nighttime hours or others times they may wish to do so.

As usual, Siri gets a little smarter in iOS 12: Apple says Siri is now better at answering questions about motorsport, celebrities, and food (try "how much caffeine is there in coffee?"). For more details, you should check out this Twitter post. If you have an older device, you won't be able to apply the update.

Is my iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch getting iOS 12?
