Jack Sock and Kevin Anderson saw off Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic 6-7 6-3 10-6 in the Laver Cup doubles to give Team World their first point of the tournament in Chicago.

British number one Kyle Edmund then beat American Sock 6-4, 5-7, (10-6) before David Goffin outgunned Diego Schwartzman.

"We've had some really close matches haven't gone our way and I really wanted to put us back in there", Anderson, who lost the Wimbledon final to Djokovic earlier this year, told reporters.

The Laver Cup is a three-day indoor hard court men's tennis tournament between Team Europe and Team World. "I think today that's what I did".

The Johannesburg-born giant served with precision and power throughout the match, reaching speeds of over 140mph and smashing down 17 aces, while errors from his Serbian rival meant Djokovic once again failed to record a point for Team Europe after Friday's doubles loss with Federer. I haven't played doubles since last year, so I'm firing, I won my match last year, so I feel like I'm really confident from that match still.

"This is event is very unique in many ways", said Djokovic on Wednesday.

The two were playing doubles together for the first times in their careers at this weekend's Laver Cup in Chicago.

Defending champion Europe needs 13 points to take the title, which is being held for the second time.

Federer and Djokovic have played each other 46 times and have a combined 24 Grand Slam titles; but they have rarely spent time on the same side of the net, outside of a handful of exhibitions and charity events. If the players split sets, they go straight to a 10-point tiebreaker.

First he partners Alexander Zverev in the doubles to take on Jack Sock and John Isner.

After dominating Friday's opening day, winning three out of the four matches, Europe's progress looked to be checked after Isner grabbed the first set against Zverev.
