Another added: "Look how proud Prince Harry looks of his wife Meghan at the launch of her cookbook!"

Women from the the Hubb Community Kitchen created a tasty lunch for Megan, Doria, Prince Harry and other guests of coconut chicken curry, aubergine masala and chapatis at the couple's home in Kensington Palace.

The book, Together: Our Community Cookbook, contains 50 recipes from a group of women who began cooking together after they were affected by the 2017 Grenfell Tower fire.

Duchess Meghan celebrated the launch of a charitable cookbook - her first project - at Kensington Palace on Thursday (Friday NZ time).

For the kickoff of the culinary guide, for which Meghan wrote the heartfelt foreword, she stepped out in a characteristically stylish ensemble including a skirt by friend and favorite Misha Nonoo, and a turtleneck bodysuit by Tuxe.

British media said it was unheard of for family members to be involved in official royal engagements, saying Ragland, who had not been seen in public with her daughter since the wedding, had told guests on her arrival: "Hi, I'm Meg's mom".

"On a personal level, I feel so proud to live in this city that can have so much diversity", she continued.

Meghan Markle: she's just like us.

Meghan says she felt "embraced" by the women from the community kitchen after just moving to London.

Los Angeles based Doria, 62, hugged each woman and said: "It's incredible".

The book celebrates the power of cooking to strengthen communities and bring people together. The Duchess of Sussex stood behind a tabletop grill and helped cook while her mother and husband watched on proudly.

Harry also attended the event.

With proceeds from the cookbook, the kitchen aims to have its doors open up to seven days per week.

The duchess first found inspiration for the cookbook during a visit to the Al Manaar Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre in west London, which she first visited (under the radar and out of the glare of the paparazzi's lens) last January. "One of my own favourite meals is collard greens, black-eyed peas cornbread - a meal I would look forward to throughout my childhood" Meghan said before describing the mouthwatering nuances of the dish served on New Year's Day. She also expressed her heartfelt affection for the project.
