Oculus Quest will ship with two handheld controllers, and consumers will be able to access more than 50 VR titles at launch.

Facebook once heavily promoted the smartphone-powered Gear VR headset, but appears to have shifted its attention to its Go headset as its preferred mobile VR device.

The Quest looks slightly different than the Santa Cruz, coming with a more curved design than either the Go or Rift. Whereas that device offered three degrees of freedom tracking, the Oculus Quest affords six degrees of freedom and packs the hardware necessary to deliver a compelling VR experience without needing to be attached to a PC.

The headset offers entirely self-contained virtual reality with no PC connection or external tracking devices needed whatsoever.

The Oculus Quest will be released next Spring and retail for $399. Oculus has also brought the Guardian System from the Rift for displaying wall and floor markers so you don't hurt yourself while moving around. Insight gives you a greater sense of immersion, presence, and mobility, plus the ability to go beyond room-scale. The Go is meant to make good VR affordable, the Quest provides a standalone experience with high-quality Rift-like experiences and the Rift can connect to a PC for the highest-end experiences possible.

Like the Oculus Go, the Oculus Quest is a wireless, standalone VR headset.

Zuck also says that these three devices are also platforms, so anything built for them today will also work with new iterations in the future.

Though Australian pricing hasn't been announced yet, in U.S. dollars that's the same price as Oculus' current Rift bundle, $US100 ($138) less than a Vive, and a whopping $US400 ($551) less than a Vive Pro, and that isn't including the relatively high-end PC you'd need to power them. However, we aren't exactly sure what hardware is powering the Oculus Quest to accomplish this.
