When Trump added an extra zero in his GDP tweet

  • President Barack Obama called for the'restoration of honesty and decency and lawfulness in our government and ripped President Donald Trump

He tried to freeze out Fox News in multiple instances.

Most recently, in the first quarter of 2006, the gross domestic product grew at a rate of 5.4 percent, while the unemployment rate was 4.7 percent in January, 4.8 percent in February and 4.7 percent in March.

But as of 3.15 pm in NY, shortly after Hassett conceded the error and hours after the claim was challenged in news stories, Trump's false tweet about GDP and unemployment remained online. "Like, from the initial fact to what the president said, I don't know the whole chain of command", Hassett said.

Hassett told reporters the GDP growth rate is higher than the unemployment rate for the first time in 10 years, not 100 as the president suggested in his tweet.

The first two numbers are correct, although they measure completely different things, and in different ways.

After relaying an incident in which he had inadvertently given an incorrect figure to Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the White House press secretary, Hassett repeated that the president had made a mistake. "We will do MUCH better than this!"

"The notion that what we're seeing right now is just a continuation of trends is not super defensible", he said.

Last Friday, former President Obama attempted to take credit for the Trump economy, arguing that he started a trend of economic recovery that continued into Donald Trump's presidency.

"I'm glad it's continued, but when you hear about this economic miracle that's been going on, when the job numbers come out, monthly job numbers, and, suddenly, Republicans are saying, 'it's a miracle.' I have to kind of remind them, actually, those job numbers are the same as they were in 2015 and 2016", he said during a speech in IL. What magic wand do you have? "And, usually, the answer is he doesn't have an answer".

"I'm not the chairman of the council of Twitter advisers", he added later.

Hassett said he suspected someone "added a 0" to the fact as it was "conveyed" to the president.

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie also took issue with Obama's attempt to blame America's divisions on Trump, calling it "richly ironic" for him to refer to Trump as a "symptom" of the divide.
