Colorado Rockies to meet Chicago Cubs in NL Wild Card Game

  • Probable starters for Monday's tiebreakers

Jon Lester is expected to start for Chicago.

The victor of this game will take on the Milwaukee Brewers later on this week.

In the second game, at 4 p.m. ET, the Los Angeles Dodgers will host the Colorado Rockies to decide the NL West title.

The NL West tiebreaker features the Dodgers and the Rockies. It will be the first-ever postseason meeting between the two franchises.

The Cubs' reliever since the All-Star break was activated from the disabled list Tuesday for the Cubs' 7:05 p.m. loser-out wild-card game at Wrigley Field against the Rockies.

Dahl, a left-handed hitter, hit third during the final two weeks of the regular season - he recently had a five-game home run streak - including during Monday's tiebreaker game, but he has been moved down the lineup a bit against Lefties. Their one loss at Wrigley, however, came with Freeland on the mound.

Cubs skipper Joe Maddon says in many ways the fact that the 162-game season comes down to an extra game to decide the national Central division champion shows why in his view baseball is the ideal sport. They're focused on the Lester with the Cubs now - and lately he's been very good. After Monday's loss at Chavez Ravine, the Rockies crossed back over the Mountain time zone to get to Chicago. The Rockies were similarly impressive, defeating the Washington Nationals 12-0 at Coors Field.

Should they do that, the Cubs will have a great shot to keep their postseason going beyond just one game.
