So, NBC News reported that the Trump White House would be placing limits on the FBI investigation into the allegations of sexual misconduct that have been lobbed at Judge Brett Kavanaugh, President Trump's Supreme Court nominee.

Kavanaugh's high school friend, Mark Judge, who Ford says was in the room when a drunken Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her, said Friday that he will cooperate with any law enforcement agency that will "confidentially investigate" sexual misconduct allegations against him and Kavanaugh.

Mr. Trump quickly directed the FBI to conduct the probe at the request of the Senate Judiciary Committee, writing in a statement that the investigation "must be limited in scope and completed in less than one week".

On Friday, President Donald Trump ordered an FBI investigation into Kavanaugh after Sens. The allegation was made by a RI man to U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse's office claiming that Kavanaugh was involved in a rape incident in the summer of 1985 in Newport, RI. Swetnick said in a signed declaration released by her attorney Michael Avenatti that Kavanaugh was present at a 1982 party where she was gang raped, but didn't identify Kavanaugh as an assailant.

Kavanaugh has vehemently denied both allegations. Ford first contacted her congressional representative with her concerns before Kavanaugh was even nominated, and it's frustrating that Democrats took months to kick-start any sort of investigative process.

Asked about the FBI investigation on Saturday, President Trump told reporters he thought the probe was "going very well".

During Kavanaugh's appearance on Capitol Hill, Klobuchar pressed him if he ever drank so much he blacked out.

A senior administration official told the Times that Don McGahn was leading the White House effort to help direct the scope of the background check. Those four witnesses do not include former classmates who have offered claims about Kavanaugh's partying and drinking habits that conflict with the nominee's own statements.

A background investigation is, by its nature, more limited than a criminal probe, and FBI agents will not be able to obtain search warrants or issue subpoenas to compel testimony from potential witnesses.

Democrats urged the FBI to investigate Swetnick's claims and voiced concern that the White House may be narrowing the scope of its work. "It is illegal to obstruct Committee investigations", Grassley said in the letter. Judge has also denied Ford's allegations.

In a Thursday night letter that followed an emotional and compelling day of hearings at which Kavanaugh again denied the almost four-decades-old allegations of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, one of three named accusers, the ABA sided with Senate Democrats out of its "respect for the rule of law and due process under law". They said the limitations could make it harder for the Federal Bureau of Investigation to look into other leads in their probe.

Since she is a psychology professor, she should know that although her memory of being sexually assaulted may be true because it was an "emotional" event, her accusation that Brett Kavanaugh was the perpetrator is probably an easily implanted "false" memory. "This goes to the very heart of whether he should be confirmed to the court", Sanders wrote in the letter to the chairman, Republican Senator Charles Grassley.
